This week, a
few companies came down to pitch their ideas for our final project. All of
their ideas were very interesting, and each idea offered a different takeaway
for us. Some of the projects, such as helping the visually handicapped play
sports by Refruit and visual alerts during fire emergencies for the Deaf and
Hard-of-hearing by Notifire really appealed to me as these projects have a
positive impact on minority communities of the disabled. I feel that we as
software developers tend to overlook these minority communities in pursuit of
targeting a larger audience. However, I personally felt that a lot of time
needs to be invested in understanding the physics of how the virtual sports
mechanism works, such as the trajectory of the swings of the racket and interaction
with visually handicapped to find out how to best suit their needs. Unfortunately,
the short span of 6 weeks may not be enough to implement this idea for us.
The idea
which appealed to me most was the Amazon Drone Delivery project by Garuda
Robotics. Drones are very popular nowadays, and many innovate applications of
drones are being explored in many industries. Hence, the prospect of working
with drones for our final project sounds very exciting!
There are
so many innovative ideas we can work on for our final project, and I’m sure my
fellow CS3216 peers will suggest even more wonderful ideas during our Internal
Pitching session next week. I hope that whatever idea we choose to work on for
our final project, we are able to make a positive difference to our users.
