Week 3

During this week’s lecture, Prof Damith talked about presentation skills. One of the most interesting point in his presentation was about PUMA, Presentation’s Underlying Message Architecture. He explained how we can build our storyline from head to tail, with head representing our main idea, spine representing the layout of our main story, legs representing the supporting details and tail for conclusion. He walked us through with an example of how we can apply PUMA. He also talked about PUNCH, Personal, Unexpected, Novel, Challenging and Humour, which we can use to make our presentation introductions interesting. I hope to be able to apply PUMA and PUNCH to my presentation next week.

For the 2nd part of the Lecture, Su Yuen talked about principles of good UI/UX design. Firstly, she talked about User Requirements Gathering, in which we identify our target users and list down their traits and behaviours. She went on to talk about identifying top 3 user actions when designing our Wireframes. The most important point was using existing frameworks and templates and building on it based on our idea, so that we don’t have to develop everything from scratch.
